Przewodziszowice, Żarki
The ruins of the watchtower at Przewodziszowice hide on a forest clearing in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, a few kilometres from Żarki. The construction of this small 14th-century post is usually linked with Casimir the Great and the system of strongholds guarding the border. Of the former tower mainly a wall has survived, running along the edge of the rock and in places over one and a half metres thick.
The rock on which the watchtower stands is a popular destination for climbers. The northern face offers difficult, partly overhanging routes, while easier variants have been set on the southern one, suitable also for the less experienced. At the foot the outline of the former outer bailey with its rampart and moat is still legible.
This is a target for a short forest walk with a dose of history — it works well as a stop during a hike along the Jurassic trails. An asphalt cycle path runs nearby, and the site is open and free of charge. The ruins are unsecured, so sturdy footwear is useful.
