Tudorów 10, Wieś Tudorów
In Tudorów near Opatów, on a small rocky spur with steep slopes, stand the ruins of a medieval knightly residence. They are dominated by a stone tower of some twenty metres, surrounded by remnants of walls and stone-and-earth ramparts. It is one of the most scenically located monuments in this part of the Sandomierz Upland.
Written sources suggest the castle was built around the middle of the 14th century. Over the following centuries it served as the residence of several noble families, until it was abandoned around the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries and its walls were quarried for building material. The name of the village gave rise to a legend about John Tudor of the English family, regarded as its first owner.
The outline of the defensive residential tower, traces of the drawbridge and dry moat, and the ramparts are still legible. A short, fairly steep path leads onto the spur and is slippery after rain. The visit takes half an hour and combines well with Opatów and Krzyżtopór Castle in Ujazd.
