A reconstructed medieval stronghold

Stara Baśń Castle stands in Grybów, on the border of the Low Beskids and the Sącz Beskids, a dozen or so kilometres from Nowy Sącz. It is a modern reconstruction of a medieval stronghold: a four-metre defensive wall with a sentry walkway links two towers, and the grounds around it are arranged for outdoor shows and play.

What to see

Visitors can walk the galleries of the walls and towers, with views over the surrounding hills and the Biała valley. The site houses a museum displaying weaponry and everyday objects, and in season it hosts demonstrations of historic crafts as well as workshops such as bread baking or smoking meat and fish.

Who it suits

The castle is aimed above all at families with children: there is a medieval-themed playground, a climbing wall and a zip line. An inn on site serves dishes inspired by old Polish cooking. Allow about an hour for the visit.
