The mofette named after Professor Henryk Świdziński lies on the boundary between Jastrzębik and Złockie in the Sącz Beskids, right beside the road. It is the country's largest natural vent of deep-origin gases, discovered in 1938 by the geologist Henryk Świdziński and protected since the late 1990s as a monument of inanimate nature.
Over an area of about 25 square metres, more than a dozen cubic metres of gas escape from the ground every minute, over ninety per cent of it carbon dioxide. The result is rust-orange mud that bubbles continuously and contrasts sharply with the greenery around it. Being heavier than air, the gas settles near the ground, which is why insects die above the mofette.
A wooden walkway runs around the vent, allowing the phenomenon to be watched from every side; do not step below its level. A marked spot by the information board serves for leaving a car. The visit takes half an hour and fits well with a stay in Muszyna and Krynica-Zdrój.
