An avenue of oaks in Roztocze

The avenue of monumental oaks in Górecko Kościelne runs from the church of Saint Stanislaus towards the chapel Na Wodzie, on the edge of the Solska Forest. It is made up of six huge trees; the oldest is more than 500 years old and measures around seven metres in girth.

What to see

Some of the trunks hide wide hollows and cavities that visitors can look into, often the highlight of the walk for children. Between the trees stands the wooden chapel Pod Dębami from 1881, with a rococo altar, and hand-carved Stations of the Cross line the avenue.

Surroundings

The row of oaks leads towards the valley of the river Szum, where the path crosses to the far bank on a wooden footbridge. Górecko Kościelne is one of the most atmospheric villages in Roztocze, and nearby trails follow the szumy, the picturesque rocky rapids of the river.
