Żurawiniec is a small nature reserve on Jasna Rola Street in the north of Poznań, on the edge of the housing estate of the same name. It covers 1.67 hectares and was established in 1959 on the initiative of Helena Szafran. It protects a transitional peat bog that formed in a closed depression of a glacial trough.
Rare bog species used to grow here, but changes in the water table and the spreading residential development have led to their disappearance. Reed beds along with alder and riparian woodland now dominate the reserve, although rare and protected species still survive among them.
It is a destination for a short, hour-long walk along the paths around the edge of the reserve — more a lesson in nature than a scenic attraction. Because the bog is fragile, it is worth keeping to the marked paths and not stepping into the wet ground.
