A large lake just outside Poznań

Lusowo Lake lies in Greater Poland, in the Poznań district, about five kilometres west of the city limits of Poznań. The lake covers around 121 hectares and has an average depth of about eight and a half metres, and the Sama river flows through it. The proximity of a large city makes it one of the most popular destinations for a short trip out of town during the warmer half of the year.

Beach and bathing area

On the shore there is the Lusowo bathing area, modernised in recent years with the support of European Union funds. In summer it offers beach facilities with space to sunbathe and a convenient entry into the water, and outside the season it is a good starting point for a walk along the shoreline. The water warms up quickly and the gentle entry suits families with children.

Angling and nature

The lake is known to anglers as a well managed fishery that is regularly restocked. Broad belts of reeds line the banks and provide shelter for water birds, while the surrounding forests contain interesting stands of trees. Cormorants, which have taken a liking to this water, are easy to spot above the surface.

Good to know

The area around the lake is flat and well connected, so a swim can easily be combined with a bicycle ride through the nearby villages or a visit to Lusowo itself. Keep in mind that the bathing area operates seasonally, and entering the water outside the designated spot is at your own risk. The flat, open ground by the shore makes this a convenient stop for a longer break on a journey across Greater Poland.
