Wieś Karłów
Niknąca Łąka is a forest clearing of about 5 hectares, lying within the Stołowe Mountains National Park near Karłów. Despite its name it is not an ordinary meadow but a wetland covered with bog vegetation, protected since 1984 and fed almost entirely by rainwater.
Raised bogs and moss carpets dominate here — ecosystems that are rare in medium-high mountains. Among the plants, hare's-tail and common cottongrass stand out, their white tufts looking their best in late spring, along with numerous sedges. A wooden boardwalk leads across the middle of the wetland, allowing a close look at it.
Two trails lead to the meadow: the green one from Droga nad Urwiskiem and the yellow one running along the boardwalk across the bog — the latter is more interesting and more comfortable. Educational panels along the route explain how peat bogs form and how they are protected. National park rules apply: keep to the marked trails only.
