European Bison Show Reserve in Białowieża

An animal enclosure in the Białowieża Forest

The European Bison Show Reserve is an animal park of the Białowieża National Park, founded in 1929 by regional road 689 linking Białowieża with Hajnówka. It covers nearly 28 hectares of woodland with spacious enclosures kept in conditions close to natural. It is the easiest way to see the animals of the primeval forest, which stay hidden from people in the wild.

What you can see

The enclosures are home to European bison — the species Białowieża is famous for — along with Polish koniks, elk, red deer, roe deer and wild boar. Żubroń, a cross between bison and domestic cattle, is shown here too, as are predators: lynx and wolves. Each enclosure has boards describing the species, its biology and its range.

Visiting

The route follows a marked path running between enclosures on both sides, so walking the whole loop takes less than an hour and is easy with children. By the entrance there are stalls with souvenirs, handicraft and honey from local apiaries. The Żebra Żubra nature trail also starts here.
