Wieś Rybniki
Krzemianka is an extensive nature reserve of nearly 231 hectares in the Podlaskie region, set within the Knyszyn Forest close to the village of Rybniki. It was created to protect the natural woodland ecosystems typical of this forest, along with numerous sites of rare plant and animal species.
The Krzemianka river flows through the area, fed by more than four hundred groundwater outflows — one of the richest clusters of springs in the region. The second curiosity is the traces of prehistoric mining: pits some three thousand years old, from which flint was extracted for making tools.
A trail of about one kilometre with numerous panels leads in places through the boggy river valley, so waterproof shoes come in handy. Along the way it passes an open-air beekeeping museum with tree hives and log hives, and a viewing tower. The reserve lies by the Białystok–Augustów road, where a small car park has been arranged.
