The oldest forest arboretum in Poland

Wirty Arboretum lies in the Zblewo commune in the Kociewie region, by Lake Borzechowskie Wielkie. It was founded in the second half of the 19th century as a nursery of fruit trees and an experimental plot for testing the economic usefulness of foreign species. Today it covers 70 hectares divided into a woodland and a park section.

The collection of trees and shrubs

More than 830 species and varieties of trees and shrubs from all over the world grow here, including rare specimens and ones with unusual habits. The collection is set within a natural stand, so a walk feels more like a hike through the forest than a tour of a garden. On the grounds lies the grave of Adam Putrich, son of the founder.

Visiting and surroundings

An educational trail 2.7 km long has been prepared for visitors, comfortable also for families with children. On hot days it is worth walking down to the lake bordering the garden. The arboretum is open in season, admission is charged, and a car park has been arranged at the entrance.
