A forest at the gates of Szczecin

A large woodland complex on the Bukowe Hills, adjoining the right-bank districts of Szczecin. It forms the core of the Puszcza Bukowa Landscape Park, created in 1981, and since 1996 it has also belonged to the Puszcze Szczecińskie Promotional Forest Complex.

Landscape and nature

Broadleaf woodland dominates, above all beech forest in many habitat variants. Alongside it grow riparian woods, alder carrs, oak stands, hornbeam forest and pine. This mosaic follows from the rolling relief of the hills and from fertile, moist soils. Numerous streams cross the area, draining to the Płonia, the Odra and the Krzekna.

How to explore

The easiest entry is from Kołowo: first the blue trail, then the yellow Bolesław Krzywousty Trail — 3.6 km, about an hour on foot. An alternative approach starts in Płonia-Śmierdnica-Jezierzyce and measures 3.7 km, taking a little over an hour.

  • Network of waymarked walking trails
