Wieś Chotel Czerwony
Przęślin is a small nature reserve in the Wiślica commune, established in 1960 to protect natural steppe vegetation and coarse-crystalline gypsum. It covers barely 0.9 hectares of a chalk hill right next to the village of Chotel Czerwony, on the edge of the Nida Basin.
The most striking features are gypsum outcrops up to three metres high, known as swallow tails; on a sunny day their surface visibly glitters. They are exposed on the southern and western slope. The grassland on the hillside holds feather grass, spring pheasant eye and hairy flax, as well as eared rockcress, recorded at only two sites in Poland.
The reserve has no marked trail and walking around the hill takes a few dozen minutes. Access leads from the church of St Bartholomew in Chotel Czerwony along the blue trail, from which you turn right onto a field track. The grassland is easily damaged by trampling. The best time to visit is spring and early summer.
