Rawicz
The Dębno reserve protects a fragment of moist mixed forest in the Rawicz commune in Greater Poland. It was established in 1961 and covers slightly more than 8 hectares. Despite its small size, it is one of the more interesting natural spots in the south of the region.
The stand is dominated by imposing oaks over two hundred years old and somewhat younger pines, the oldest of which are around one hundred and seventy; some are protected as natural monuments. The undergrowth includes bilberry, yellow iris, Swedish whitebeam and meadowsweet. Black and great spotted woodpeckers can be heard in the canopy, while the old oaks host the great capricorn beetle.
An educational trail runs through the reserve and takes in the most interesting parts of the stand; walking it at an easy pace takes about two hours. The terrain is flat but can be waterlogged after rain, so proper footwear helps. The reserve lies between the S5 expressway and road number 36.
