Wieś Starczanowo
Śnieżycowy Jar is a floristic nature reserve in Greater Poland, between the villages of Starczanowo and Uchorowo in the Poznań district. It was established in 1975 to protect one of the region's few sites of the spring snowflake. Originally 4.21 hectares, it now covers 9.52 hectares of slopes cut by ravines.
The snowflakes bloom in early spring, when the floor of the ravine turns white with flowers — the shortest and busiest moment of the season. Beyond it, the tree stand draws attention: some twenty species of trees and shrubs, including red oak, white poplar, sycamore and elm, aged between 20 and 120 years. The undergrowth holds liverleaf, wood anemone and yellow star-of-Bethlehem.
A walking path crosses the reserve, linking Starczanowo with Uchorowo; visitors must keep to the marked routes, and during peak bloom particular care is needed, as the plants grow right at the edge of the trail. The terrain is hilly and muddy after rain, so sturdy footwear pays off.
