ul. Gen. Andersa, Głuchołazy
Las Bukowy is a forest nature reserve in the Opole province, within the municipality of Głuchołazy, at the gateway to the Opawskie Mountains. It was established in 1999 to protect a natural beech stand. The reserve covers just under 22 hectares, and the average age of its trees exceeds 130 years.
The mature beechwood forms an interior of tall, smooth trunks with sparse undergrowth — in spring the floor is carpeted with wild garlic, alongside goat's beard and interrupted clubmoss. At the edge of the reserve two adits from the 15th and 16th centuries survive, a trace of former mining; bats hibernate inside them, including Geoffroy's bat, the barbastelle and the lesser horseshoe bat.
The area is open to visitors: three hiking trails and a nature education path run through it, the latter walkable within an hour. The entrance lies on Gen. Andersa Street in Głuchołazy, where a car park has been laid out. The adits can only be viewed from outside, as they are closed to protect the bats.
