A natural monument in the heart of Karpacz

The Lipa Sądowa grows on Konstytucji 3 Maja Street, in the lower part of Karpacz. Its trunk measures about five metres in girth and the tree rises over twenty metres high, with its age estimated at two and a half centuries. It is one of the oldest living witnesses to the history of this Karkonosze town, protected as a natural monument.

Where the name comes from

The name refers to the site's former role: the local community gathered beneath the crown of the tree, disputes were settled here and those who broke the law were judged. The linden served as the village centre long before Karpacz became a spa resort, and to this day it remains a symbol of the community.

What to see around it

A small square with benches has been arranged around the tree, offering a good view of its spreading crown. Other impressive trees grow here as well: a weeping willow, a blue spruce and a tulip tree, rare in the Polish climate. The stop takes only a few minutes and fits naturally into a walk through town.
