Wieś Krutyń
Zakochana Para is a natural monument in the village of Krutyń in Masuria, in the heart of the Pisz Forest. It consists of two trees of different species growing side by side: a pine of about 270 years standing 27 metres tall, and a younger pedunculate oak, close to 160 years old and 18 metres high.
A few metres above the ground the boughs of both trees touch and interlace, creating the impression of an embrace. The pine grows straight towards the south, while over decades the oak leaned and stretched its branches in its direction, reaching for light. A local tale says a jay buried an acorn at the pine's foot, and from it grew today's oak.
The trees stand by the road from Krutyń to Lake Mokre, right beside the path to the Zakręt reserve, so they combine easily with a longer walk through the forest. Krutyń itself is a well-known base for canoe trips down the Krutynia river, and the surrounding woods and lakes rank among the finest in Masuria.
