Wioski Świata (Villages of the World) - Global Education Park

A journey around the world in one afternoon

Wioski Świata is a Global Education Park laid out in the Dębniki district of Cracow, on Tyniecka Street. It is the first undertaking of its kind in Poland: instead of a classic exhibition, visitors are given grounds through which they wander from culture to culture. The park was created with the intercultural education of children and young people in mind, but adults and family groups visit it too.

The whole covers about three hectares, which leaves room for an unhurried walk and for stopping at each of the structures without crowds or rush.

What to see

Reconstructed on the park grounds are, among others, an African village, a Papuan stilt house, a Mongolian yurt, an igloo, a Native American tipi and a Peruvian hut. Each of these structures shows the real living conditions of people who often function on the margins of the global economy — the construction of the house, the way food is stored, everyday objects.

The interiors are furnished with original exhibits, photographs and handicrafts from the countries of the Global South. The visit is interactive: you can step inside, touch things and compare.

Who it is for

The park has prepared programmes for school groups, individual visitors and families. The workshops address culture, daily life and the problems of inhabitants of the world's poorest regions — a good suggestion for parents looking for something more than entertainment alone for their children. The grounds are suitable for moving around with a pram.

The surroundings

Tyniecka Street runs along the Vistula towards Tyniec with its Benedictine abbey, and in the opposite direction — towards the centre of Cracow. It is a convenient point for combining a visit to the park with a walk or a bicycle ride along the Vistula boulevards.
