ul. Konstantynowska 8/10, Polesie, Łódź
The zoological garden in Łódź has operated on Konstantynowska street in the Polesie district since 1938. It cares for a collection of nearly 2,200 animals representing almost 700 species and has belonged to the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria since 1993, taking part in endangered species programmes.
The flagship of the Łódź zoo is the Orientarium — a large complex devoted to the fauna of South-East Asia, with Indian elephants, orangutans and an underwater tunnel with sharks passing overhead. Beyond it there are the monkey house with macaques and tamarins, a vivarium of amphibians and reptiles, a butterfly house and the „World of Birds” pavilion.
The ground is level and easy with a pushchair, and the alleys run among old trees, so the walk stays pleasant even in the heat. Covering the enclosures and pavilions takes at least two hours, and considerably more with the Orientarium. The zoo lies near the western edge of the city, on the road out towards Konstantynów Łódzki.
