A zoo on Bolko Island

Opole Zoo occupies Bolko Island on the Oder, within walking distance of the city centre yet surrounded by greenery and quiet. The garden was created in the 1930s and now covers about twenty hectares. More than a thousand animals of close to two hundred species live here.

What to see

The collection includes giraffes, cheetahs, snow leopards, gorillas, wolves, elk, lemurs, alpacas and pelicans. Separate highlights are the seal house with Californian sea lions and the Land of Biodiversity, an exhibition built around interdependence in nature. Several enclosures can be viewed from more than one level.

Who it suits

This is a zoo where half a day with children passes easily: there is a petting zoo where the youngest can feed animals under staff supervision, several playgrounds and a rope park for older visitors. The paths are surfaced, so a pushchair is no obstacle. Dogs are not admitted.
