The Tatra Educational Park lies in Zakopane, next to Snowlandia and the ski jump below Wielka Krokiew, within easy reach of the town centre. It was created to bring the nature and culture of the Tatras closer in a direct way — through observing live animals and plants rather than information boards alone.
The grounds hold enclosures with species typical of the region and beyond: sheep, Carpathian goats, arctic and silver foxes, red deer and a herd of fallow deer. Some of the animals may be fed and stroked. The most interesting feature is the marmot enclosure with an extensive network of burrows fitted with cameras, which reveal the life of these rarely seen mammals from the inside.
The park appeals mainly to families with younger children and to visitors who want to get to know Tatra wildlife without a long mountain ascent. The tour takes place outdoors, so it is worth checking the forecast and dressing for the conditions.
