Górzyniec, Piechowice
Kropelka Waterfall is a small but picturesque cascade on the Mała Kamienna stream, hidden in the forest far from busy roads. Administratively it lies within the Stara Kamienica commune, but because of the easier access its location is usually given as Górzyniec — a district of Piechowice in the Jelenia Góra Valley.
The water step is about two metres high and five metres wide. This is a place for a short, calming walk rather than for a full day trip.
Kropelka is not an entirely natural feature — it was created as one of the debris barriers built on mountain streams after the great floods of 1882 and 1897. Such steps were meant to hold back the rock material carried by the water and to slow the current. Today the stone reinforcement has blended into its surroundings and looks like a natural element of the landscape.
At the foot of the waterfall the water has carved a bed deeper than on the neighbouring stretches of the stream — on hot days it is sometimes used for a cold dip. The water is a mountain one, though, and genuinely cold all year round, and the stones can be slippery, so it is worth taking care.
The point of reference is the bus turning loop in Górzyniec; a signpost indicating the further route to the waterfall stands beside it. The last stretch is covered on foot along a forest path beside the stream, so shoes with a good sole come in handy. Admission is free and you may bring a dog along.
