Zakopane
Siklawa lies in the High Tatras on the Roztoka stream and is regarded as the largest waterfall in the country — the water drops from the threshold of Ściana Stawiarska from a height of about 65–70 metres. This rock step separates the Roztoka Valley from the Valley of Five Polish Lakes, and the stream splits into two to four cascades depending on the water level.
A green trail leads to the waterfall from Wodogrzmoty Mickiewicza towards Wielki Staw. The stretch measures about 4.6 kilometres and takes roughly two and a half hours one way, so the whole trip including the return and the drive requires several hours. The upper part of the route is steep and calls for proper footwear.
The waterfall is most impressive after heavy rainfall, when it carries plenty of water; on sunny days rainbows appear in the spray. The site has drawn walkers since the nineteenth century, so the trail is busy in season — early morning is the quietest time.
