A murmuring step on the Jeleń river

The Jeleń Waterfall is one of the best-known water steps in the Roztocze region, set on the Jeleń river near Susiec. It is over 1.5 metres high and around 9 metres wide, which makes it impressive despite the modest drop. The site is protected as a monument of inanimate nature.

Landscape and nature

The Jeleń river rises in Susiec at the Morskie Oko reservoir and ends its course as a tributary of the Tanew. In its middle section it cuts through a belt of resistant rock, forming a series of steps, of which the waterfall is the largest. Pine and beech woods surround it, and the water carries the colour typical of Roztocze streams. It looks best in spring and after heavier rain.

How to get there

Three approaches lead to the waterfall: the blue Szumy Trail, the yellow Southern Trail from Susiec, and a path from the car park by the Tanew rapids in the village of Rebizanty. All of them involve a short walk along forest tracks with no technical difficulty. Motorhome travellers usually leave their vehicle in Susiec or Rebizanty and continue on foot.
