Kamieniołom Warszawski lies near Złoty Potok, south-west of Janów in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. The quarry yielded exceptionally pale limestone, regarded as the whitest in Poland, which was used among others for the building of the Polish parliament and the office of the Council of Ministers in Warsaw — hence the name of the site.
The disused pit now forms an amphitheatre of white walls that contrast sharply with the greenery and the blue sky. Pines grow along the rim and their roots trail down the rock; the best known of them is often compared with Sokolica in the Pieniny Mountains. A walk across the floor of the quarry takes a quarter of an hour.
The black Gorzyczkowskie Hills Trail runs through the quarry, so the visit is easy to combine with a longer walk. Nearby Złoty Potok offers a palace and park complex, ponds and a trout farm, and the area holds rocks and caves typical of the Jura. It makes a good stop on a drive through the region.
