Karpacz
Patelnia (the Frying Pan) is one of the three Grabowiec Rocks — granite tors on the western slope of Grabowiec, a hill north of Karpacz in the Karkonosze Mountains. The name comes from the shape of its top: the summit of the rock is almost flat and edged with a low rim, so that from above it resembles a frying pan.
Steps cut into the granite lead to the top, so no climbing skills are needed — only care, as the rock can be wet and slippery. From the flat surface you can see Karpacz, the Łomnica valley and the main ridge of the Karkonosze with Śnieżka. It is a popular resting and photo spot on a hike across Grabowiec.
The Grabowiec Rocks are credited with a former ritual role and are sometimes called a place of power where the forces of nature were worshipped. That is hard to verify, but the atmosphere of granite blocks among the spruce forest does its work. The route from Karpacz follows marked trails and can easily be combined with the ascent of Grabowiec and a further walk towards the Karkonosze National Park.
