The Orłowo Cliff rises above the shore of the Bay of Gdańsk in the Orłowo district of Gdynia. It is around 650 metres long and its steep face reaches forty metres in places. This is the part of the city that juts furthest towards the sea and at the same time the most photographed stretch of the Gdynia coast.
The cliff is built of boulder clay and loamy sands left behind by the ice sheet; rusty iron deposits show in the exposed wall. From the top there is a view of the Hel Peninsula, the roadstead of the port of Gdynia and the open Baltic. The edge remains active — the sea takes up to a metre of land each year, so do not approach the very brink.
The yellow Geomorphological Trail leads to the cliff, starting by the pier in Orłowo; the walk of just under a kilometre takes about fifteen minutes. The route runs through the Kępa Redłowska reserve and involves steps and forest paths, so a pushchair is not a good idea. The beach at the foot of the cliff is accessible only when the water is low.
