Wieś Będkowice
Dupa Słonia is a limestone tor in the middle part of the Będkowska Valley, a dozen or so kilometres north-west of Cracow. Together with the neighbouring crags — Lipczyńska and Babka — it forms a single rock complex. Each of them stands between 10 and 20 metres high.
This is one of the busier climbing areas in the Jura: some 97 routes of widely varying difficulty have been bolted on the complex, from beginner lines to demanding ones. For non-climbers the appeal lies in the rock itself — fissured, moss-covered walls and the view over the valley floor with its meadows and the Będkówka stream.
The tor was originally called Zamczysko; the present name was given by climbers in the 1970s and quickly replaced the older one. The rock stands by the blue Jurassic Strongholds Trail near Będkowice, and the walk in takes about 25 minutes, partly along the yellow trail. The route is easy but steep in places.
