ul. Piaskowa, Wieś Kozy
The quarry in Kozy lies on the edge of the village in the Bielsko district, at the foot of the Little Beskids. Stone was extracted here for road and railway construction; the works were set up in the early twentieth century by the owner of the local estate and employed several hundred people between the wars. Extraction ended long ago and nature has taken the pit back.
A tall rock face rises above the floor of the pit, and water has collected at its base to form a small pool. The site is protected within the Natura 2000 network, chiefly for its bats and rock habitats. From the clearing above the water you can see the whole face and the surrounding hills — a good spot for a picnic and a quiet break.
The approach from the village is short and easy, along a comfortable track. It is worth combining the visit with a further walk on the Papal Trail up to Hrobacza Łąka at 828 m above sea level, which offers a panorama of the Beskids and the Oświęcim Basin. The climb is steep but not long.
