Dolina Bolechowicka, Wieś Bolechowice
Brama Bolechowicka is a limestone rock gate closing the mouth of the Bolechowicka Valley on the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, some fifteen kilometres north-west of Cracow. It is formed by two soaring towers: Filar Pokutników and Filar Abazego. The site lies within the Dolinki Krakowskie Landscape Park and the Wąwóz Bolechowicki reserve.
The walls of the gate rise several dozen metres above the valley floor, and the Bolechówka stream winds between them. Grassy clearings stretch in front of and behind the gate, convenient for a short rest. From the slopes above the valley you can see the Tenczynek Hump, the Krzeszowice Trough and the buildings of Cracow.
This is one of the oldest climbing areas in Poland — the pillars were named by mountaineers before the Second World War. Climbing is allowed only on designated routes fitted with fixed protection points. Walkers will appreciate the easy, short approach along the valley floor.
