Szklarska Poręba
Chybotek is a cluster of granite blocks on the south-eastern slopes of Wysoki Wierch in the Izera Mountains, just above Szklarska Poręba. The boulders, roughly four metres across, rest one on top of another, and the uppermost block can be set rocking by hand — hence the name. It is a textbook example of Izera granite scenery, shaped by weathering along joint fissures.
Local lore says the rock blocks the entrance to an underground cave where the Spirit of the Mountains hid his treasure. Until 1945 the site bore a name referring to the shape of the boulder — the Sugar Bowl. After the war the Polish term describing the moving block took hold.
The blue trail from Szklarska Poręba leads to Chybotek; the walk takes about an hour and a quarter. The path runs through forest on a moderate gradient and suits older children too. The trip is easily combined with other rock formations and viewpoints above the town.
