Zakopane
Siklawica is the best-known waterfall of the Strążyska Valley in the Western Tatras, still within the boundaries of Zakopane. The water drops 23 metres here, over two steps inclined at about 80 degrees. The lower wall measures 13 metres and the upper one 10, separated by a rock shelf.
A comfortable road leads from Zakopane to the Strążyska Clearing, and from there a yellow trail branches off to the waterfall. The climb takes about a quarter of an hour and is short, though stony in places. The whole trip, including the return, usually fits into two hours.
The name is a diminutive of the Tatra Siklawa in the Valley of Five Polish Lakes. The waterfall is most impressive in spring, after the thaw, when the stream carries the most water; in summer the flow can be thin. The area belongs to the Tatra National Park and visitors must keep to marked trails.
