Wieś Besko
The Wisłok gorge at Besko, known locally as Skałki, is the most spectacular stretch of the river valley between Mymoń and Besko in the Sanok district. The Wisłok flows here through a narrow ravine whose walls reach from forty to sixty metres. It is one of the geologically most interesting fragments of this part of the foothills.
The riverbed forms rocky steps, small waterfalls and cascades, with calm, deeper sections between them. The walls of the ravine are built of Carpathian flysch, whose layers differ in colour and hardness. The water exposes successive beds of sandstone and shale.
The section at Besko is the easiest to reach — elsewhere the descent to the water is steep and slippery. The best viewing conditions occur at low water, when the rock shelves are exposed. After rainfall the level rises quickly and the banks become boggy.
