Szklarska Poręba
Sowie Skały is a group of granite tors on Sowiniec Hill (675 m above sea level), rising directly above the centre of Szklarska Poręba in the Karkonosze Mountains. The tallest formation measures about 10 metres. The rocks lie above the Corpus Christi church, and the walk up from town takes less than an hour.
A blue-marked trail leads here from Szklarska Poręba. It runs through spruce and beech forest, is moderately steep and is manageable for children too. Among the granite blocks you can see weathering forms typical of the Karkonosze: rock basins, grooves and rounded blocks separated by fissures.
This is a good short outing for visitors staying in Szklarska Poręba who want a few hours on foot without heading into the higher parts of the range. The rocks combine easily with the nearby viewpoints and waterfalls west of town. The site is undeveloped, with no facilities — footwear with soles that grip wet granite is worth having.
