Wieś Czerna
The Spring of the Prophet Elijah rises in the Eliaszówka Valley, north of the village of Czerna in the Kraków district, within the Dolina Eliaszówki nature reserve on the Olkusz Upland. Its stone surround was given the shape of a heart and dates back more than a hundred years.
Above the outflow stands a stone plaque with an image of the biblical prophet Elijah; the place is meant to recall the Kerith brook where the prophet is said to have hidden. A second, modern plaque explains that the water comes from a Carboniferous aquifer. Wooden boardwalks and benches have been laid out around the spring. Its water feeds the nearby Krzeszówka stream.
The valley is wooded, cool and damp, with limestone slopes typical of the Polish Jura. Nearby stands the Discalced Carmelite monastery in Czerna, with remains of former hermitages and the bridge known as the Devil's Bridge. Together they make for a quiet walk of a few hours through the reserve.
