Wieś Ryczów
Straszykowe Skały is a cluster of limestone tors hidden in the forest south-east of Ryczów in Zawiercie County. They stand near one of the highest points of the Częstochowa Upland, reaching about 500 m above sea level. They belong to the Ryczów micro-region of rocks, and the individual towers carry their own names: Skała pod Słupem, Felin, Fircyk, Skrzynia and Weselna.
This is a well-known climbing area — around fifty routes have been set here, graded from II to VI.8 on the Kurtyka scale, from easy lines to demanding walls. The limestone has a characteristic surface sculpted by erosion, with chimneys, overhangs and cracks, interesting also for those who come only to look.
Ryczów lies in the middle of the Trail of the Eagles' Nests, between Podzamcze and Pilica, so the rocks are easy to combine with a tour of the Jurassic strongholds. The approach follows forest paths; it is short but stony, so shoes with a good sole are useful.
