ul. Węgroda, Wieś Rogoźnik
The Rogoźnik quarry lies in the eastern part of the village of Rogoźnik, near Będzin, on Węgroda street. Triassic limestone was once extracted here; today the pit is disused and is gradually being overgrown with lush vegetation. The exposed rock walls, however, remain clearly readable and form the main attraction of the place.
The greatest curiosity are the fossils that can be found in the rubble and on the rock beds — the area belongs to the classic Triassic sites of the region. The geological forms themselves also draw attention: the bedding of the limestone, faults and traces of quarrying. The quarry is rarely visited, so it stays quiet.
The floor of the pit holds a good deal of red clay, which sticks firmly to shoes on damp days — rubber boots or sturdy outdoor footwear are the best choice. The ground is uneven, with boggy hollows in places, and is not suitable for a walk with a pushchair.
