Wieś Smoleń
Grodzisko Pańskie is a modest hill, 485 metres above sea level, in the Częstochowa Upland within the Wodąca Valley near Smoleń. A distinctive limestone mushroom rock stands on its summit, and from beside it opens a broad panorama of the Jurassic landscape — fields, forests and further tors.
The elongated ridge of the hill is cut by terraces and ramparts, remains of a fortification that from the 12th to the 14th century belonged to the defensive line between Smoleń and Strzegowa. Archaeological research has shown, however, that people were present here far earlier, in the first centuries of our era. The wooded slopes conceal limestone tors and small caves; one of them is linked to a tale of a coin forgers' workshop from the reign of John II Casimir.
From Smoleń the route follows first the blue and then the green trail; it is about 2.5 km long and takes under an hour. Footbridges have been installed at the more difficult points.
