Karpacz
Krucze Skały is a group of granite tors on the slopes of Kurza Kopa, above the Płomnica stream, in the northern part of Karpacz. The tallest walls reach about 25 metres, and their upper sections form natural viewing terraces over the Karkonosze Mountains and the Jelenia Góra Valley.
In the 19th century the slope was intensively dug over by prospectors searching for ore and gemstones. Adits and excavations scattered among the rocks remain from that activity. Minerals associated with the region — amethysts, tourmalines and quartz — can still be found in the rubble, though a find takes patience.
The complex is one of the more popular climbing areas in the Karkonosze: several dozen routes of varying difficulty have been laid out here. Visitors without equipment reach the walls on the black Obrońców Pokoju trail from Karpacz — the section is about 1.2 km long and takes half an hour. The walk is easy to combine with a longer hike towards the Karkonosze National Park.
