Wieś Bachanowo
Głazowisko Bachanowo is a small nature reserve of just under one hectare, protecting inanimate nature within the Suwałki Landscape Park, south of Lake Hańcza. It covers Poland's largest concentration of glacial erratics — estimated at more than ten thousand boulders.
The boulders were carried here by the Scandinavian ice sheet, and the largest specimens measure up to eight metres in circumference. They lie on four levels: in the bed of the Czarna Hańcza, on the valley floor, and on two terraces rising several and several dozen metres above the water. A wooden boardwalk leads to each of them.
The boulder surfaces are covered with lichens and rock mosses, a subject of nature observation in their own right. The reserve is still used as pasture, which keeps the landscape open and scenic. Access follows the yellow Eastern Cycling Trail around Lake Hańcza; a footpath branches off from the car park and runs about 1.4 km to the boulder field.
