Szklarska Poręba
Końskie Łby is a group of granite rocks in the western Karkonosze Mountains, within the Karkonosze National Park, on the slope of Szrenica at about 1290 m above sea level. The name refers to the outline of the blocks, which resembles horses' heads.
The present shape of the tors is the result of tens of thousands of years of frost weathering: water seeped into cracks in the granite, froze and gradually split the rock, exposing the harder parts of the massif. Similar formations occur along the whole Karkonosze ridge, but Końskie Łby stand out with a distinctive silhouette visible from the valley.
Two trails lead to the rocks: a short black one from the mountain hut on Szrenica, about 0.6 km long, and a green one from Jakuszyce, requiring a hike of several hours. From the rocks a panorama opens over the Izera Mountains, the Jelenia Góra Valley, the main Karkonosze ridge and the town of Szklarska Poręba. National park rules apply, including staying on marked trails.
