Wieś Czarnów
Ostra Mała rises to 935 m above sea level in the Rudawy Janowickie range in the western Sudetes, above the village of Czarnów in the Kamienna Góra district. It is one of the highest points of the range and stands out clearly from its surroundings. The slopes are covered with spruce and beech forest, while rock outcrops break up the summit area.
A viewpoint has been arranged on the summit. In good weather it offers a panorama of the Karkonosze with the Lasocki Ridge, as well as the Jelenia Góra Basin, the Izera Foothills and the Wałbrzych, Kamienne and Kaczawskie Mountains. Early spring and autumn provide the best conditions, when the air is clear.
Several marked routes lead to the top. The shortest is the red trail from Czarnów (about 2 km); longer approaches run from Kowary along the green trail and from Karpniki along the yellow one, and the blue section of the European E3 long-distance trail crosses the range from Kamienna Góra. The paths are mountainous, steep and stony in places — sturdy footwear is needed.
