Wieś Sromowce Wyżne
Wąwóz Szopczański cuts into the Central Pieniny between the western slopes of Trzy Korony and the eastern slopes of Podskalna Góra, within Pieniny National Park. The Szopczański stream runs along its bottom and flows into the Marcelowy stream. The proximity of Sromowce Wyżne and Sromowce Niżne makes the gorge easy to reach.
The rock walls reach up to 30 m in height, with narrow passages, ledges and small caves between them. The limestone bedrock favours calcicole plants, including rare and protected species, and the slopes carry a varied tree stand. The ravine is considered the most beautiful in the whole of the Pieniny.
The simplest approach is from the PTTK Trzy Korony mountain hut in Sromowce Niżne — only a few minutes walk from the mouth of the gorge. The route is short but stony and damp. National park rules apply: walking is allowed on marked trails only. The many nooks have inspired legends about hidden treasure.
