Rudawka Rymanowska
Ściana Olzy is an extensive landslide in Rudawka Rymanowska, in the Rymanów commune in the Podkarpackie region. It formed as earth masses slid down the valley slope, exposing a vertical rock wall more than 30 metres high. It is the largest outcrop of Oligocene menilite shales in the Polish Carpathians, which is why the site was included in the GEOKarpaty geotourism trail.
The eye is drawn to the colourful, layered surface of the cliff, where dark shales alternate with lighter sandstone bands, giving a clear cross-section through the Carpathian rock strata. In winter the water running down the middle of the landslide freezes into an impressive ice fall that draws watchers of natural phenomena. The approach to the wall is short and requires no fitness preparation.
Rudawka Rymanowska lies just a few hundred metres from the Main Beskid Trail, between the Rymanów Hills and the northern slopes of the Bukowica range. A holiday and health centre operates nearby, and a few kilometres away lies the spa town of Rymanów-Zdrój.
