Wieś Kościelisko
Dolina Chochołowska is the longest and broadest valley on the Polish side of the Tatras, running for about 10 kilometres. The entrance is at Siwa Polana in Kościelisko, and the farthest point is the PTTK mountain hut on Polana Chochołowska. The whole valley lies within the Tatra National Park.
The valley owes its fame to the spring bloom of crocuses, which cover the meadow with a purple carpet in April. Along the way you pass Niżnia Brama Chochołowska, the Chochołowskie Wywierzysko karst spring and the Huciska clearing. In summer traditional sheep grazing takes place on Polana Chochołowska and the shepherds' hut sells oscypek and other cheeses. The chapel of St John the Baptist stands nearby.
The green trail along the valley floor is wide and gentle, open to cyclists as well; horse-drawn carts and a small road train also operate here. Minibuses from Zakopane run to Siwa Polana, and drivers use the large car parks at the valley entrance.
