Szklarska Poręba
Śnieżne Stawki is a cluster of small, drainless tarns in the Karkonosze Mountains, lying at about 1,260 m above sea level in the Great Snow Cirque above Szklarska Poręba. There are eight of them, but six fill with water only periodically. Rock debris and dwarf mountain pine surround them, and the crystal-clear water is home to alpine newts.
Cars are left in the paid car park on Urocza Street in Szklarska Poręba, where the yellow trail begins. The start is calm and wooded, then the path turns stony and climbs steeply. On the way you can rest at the hut below Łabski Szczyt, then head for Mokre Rozdroże and take the green trail to the tarns.
The area lies within Karkonosze National Park in a strict protection zone — movement is allowed on marked trails only. In winter access may be closed because of avalanche danger, so late spring, summer and autumn are the best times. The return can be routed past the Śnieżne Kotły cirques.
