Zakopane
Polana Strążyska closes the barely two-and-a-half-kilometre Strążyska Valley in the Western Tatras, just above Zakopane. The walk from the mouth of the valley takes about an hour on a wide, gentle trail, which makes the route suitable for any season. From the clearing there is a direct view of the massive, craggy face of Giewont.
A few minutes from the entrance you pass the Młyniska clearing with a forester's lodge and a small pond where amphibians can be watched. Further on the valley narrows between wooded slopes. A seasonal snack bar operates on Polana Strążyska itself, and from here the yellow trail reaches the Siklawica waterfall on the Strążyski stream in a quarter of an hour.
This is one of the most accessible Tatra valleys — you can walk here from the centre of Zakopane, come by city bus or drive and leave the car in one of the car parks at the valley mouth.
