Zakopane
Dolina Białego is a small valley in the Western Tatras, barely 2.5 kilometres long, cut between the Krokiew massif and Sarnia Skała. Its name comes from the white limestone exposed in the bed of the Biały Potok stream and from the foaming water running through it. The entrance lies just above Zakopane, so the walk starts practically in town.
The path follows the bottom of the gorge and crosses the stream on wooden footbridges many times. The valley is a strict nature reserve: fir and beech forests grow here, higher up dwarf pine and Swiss stone pine, and among the rare plants are the mountain pine and the woolly cotoneaster. Birds such as black grouse and capercaillie are protected as well.
The route is easy and works well as a family walk, but the steps and footbridges rule out a pushchair. The valley is easily combined with a climb to Sarnia Skała and a descent through Dolina Strążyska. Cars are left near Wielka Krokiew, about 20 minutes from the mouth of the valley.
