A hut in the Łomniczka valley

The PTTK Nad Łomniczką hut stands in the Karkonosze Mountains, inside Karkonosze National Park, within the borough of Karpacz. It sits along the route towards Śnieżka, in the valley of the Łomniczka stream, and works as a stop for hikers rather than as accommodation. Visitors come here for a hot meal, a rest and the toilets.

A place without electricity

The greatest curiosity of the hut is that it is not connected to the power grid. The building runs on its own water turbine driven by the mountain stream, which gives the interior the atmosphere of the pre-electric era and attracts admirers of unusual mountain shelters. In the evening the light comes mainly from fire and lamps.

Access and surroundings

The hut is reached on foot from the centre of Karpacz — in winter also by sleigh rides — and by mountain trails: the green one from Biały Jar, which after some ten minutes joins the yellow trail leading to Łomniczka. Drivers use two car parks: at the junction of Dzika and Wilcza streets and on Sarnia street.
